The Encyclopedia of Life

"Encyclopedia of Life" (the encyclopedia of life) is a mammoth project which proposes to archive some 1.8 million species of animals and plants known to date. 10 years of work will be required to complete this project amounts to 100 million dollars.

This project aims to create a resource bank and an online database that will be the reference for researchers, teachers, students or the general public. Each case will have a top-conducted by experts proposant videos, photos, sounds, notes and maps. "This will have a term of information high quality well organized and available at a level unprecedented" said Dr James Edwards who heads the project.

The first stage of the project will focus on animals, plants, followed by fungi and microbes.

This catalog is only possible with technology today, scientists believe that this catalog may include forward a hundred million species.
